The Dewbury Potters

Thursdays10am to 3pm

The Dewbury PottersIt is nearly ten years since the Dewbury Potters group was formed. Most of the members were originally pupils of tutor Brian Dewbury at Brunel University in West London and they continue to meet once a week on a Thursday. Inevitably the group has changed as individuals leave and others join, but they all enjoy the companionship and shared learning experience and welcome new members.

Like many craft skills, working with clay is harder than it looks. 'Practice makes perfect' is nearer the truth and members of the Dewbury Potters can testify to this: jump one hurdle and there's always another ahead – the technique of glazing and firing is even more complex. But working with friends and with expert guidance always on hand makes it easier, and helps to stimulate. Try hand building, producing a variety of forms both conventional and sculptural.

The group always has at least one exhibition per year; standards are becoming increasingly professional with a variety of styles developed over the years.

If anyone is interested in joining this highly structured Thursday day-time course, they should contact Rose, as there are occasional vacancies in the group.
