About
re:create started in Sept 2007 when Rose Scarborough took over a dusty pottery workshop in a room at the back of Berkhamsted Town Hall. Her vision was to provide the town with an arts and crafts centre where everyone would be welcome to come and discover their creativity as a learning experience or simply for general well being.
After five years of providing art and craft workshops and classes in that space we have developed and expanded.
Recreate, the space, is now inhabited by some wonderful artists. They come from a broad spectrum of disciplines. We have a printer, a writer, a graphic designer, an illustrator and a painter. They work in the studio and keep the creative vibe going.
The classes meanwhile have moved out into the community. For example, textile classes are now run at Ashlyns School and the life drawing classes at venues around the area. An artists’ support group also continues to meet once a week to provide advice, encouragement and support. Recreate has also helped to join like minded folk together who have gone on to their own projects including setting up a gallery, starting their own jewellery making business and several young people have been inspired to apply and get into some of the top art schools in the country.
